30's - Add Density - Avg. 3 Follicular Units per Mini Graft

By my mid 30’s I had a receding hairline, thinning top and balding crown.

I was held hostage by my hair. Limited by styling options to disguise my loss, I chose the combed-back, sprayed-down look which made wind gusts and open car windows my constant enemy and hats a part of my daily wardrobe. I avoided sitting under direct light at restaurants and in front of windows on sunny days, fearing my scalp would be exposed to the world.

In the early days of my hair loss I did not consider a permanent solution because only un-natural looking options such as scalp reductions, plugs, flap’s and hair systems were available and non of them looked natural.

Then I was reacquainted with an old friend who had his hair restored with the more advanced mini graft process.  I was sold and scheduled my first hair restoration surgery.  In those days, 300 grafts was a large procedure. So, I got aggressive and booked 3 sessions of 300 mini-grafts each but was still loosing hair faster than I could restore it.

Disgusted again, I gave up hope that I would ever be able to keep up with my hair loss and was destined to be bald.

Age 46 - Before 1500 Grafts

40's - Hairline and Crown - Avg 3 Hairs per Follicular Unit Graft

I found new hope when micro-surgical technology was finally perfected and larger numbers of follicular unit transplantation became available. After having several consultations with different hair restoration companies I decided on adding another 1500 grafts to reconstitute my hairline and add density in the crown. I also began taking Propecia to supplement topical treatments of Minoxidil to help slow down the loss of my native, not-transplanted hair.

Age 47 - Before 1200 Grafts

Temporal Recess & Density

Extremely satisfied with my procedure a year earlier I decided on another 1200 follicular unit grafts with a focus on the temporal recess areas and to density throughout the top and crown. I estimate that 10% of my follicles averaged one hair, 60% averaged two hairs and 30% averaged three or more hairs each.

Now more confident than ever before I decided on a final procedure of 500 follicular unit grafts to put the finishing touches on a long hard fought journey.
